Being a pioneer 5 star hotel in Bali,
Inna Grand Bali beach Hotel is the tallest building in Bali
just before the local government made a ruling that no dwelling
was to exceed the hight of a fully-grown coconut tree in order
to appease the Hindu community and leave the Gods undisturbed.
During the early construction of Inna Grand
Bali Beach Hotel, Indonesia's first President Mr. Soekarno,
a firm believer in spirituality and the supernatural, made
the promise that he would set aside one room for the Goddess
of the Sea. However, before construction was completed his
government was overthrown in a bitter kudeta and the promise
to set aside one room was never fully followed through.
In January 1993 the main lobby structure
and the surrounding ten storey's were destroyed by a devastating
blaze. Hotel guests and staff were unharmed as flames leapt
from every windows and a thick black smoke enveloped the village
of Sanur. It was a full two days before the smoldering ceased
and workers were able to survey the damaged. Miraculously
one room survived the intense fire and apart fron a little
smoke damage to the walls, the entire twin-share suit remainded
intact. The fate of room 327 remains a mysterious phenomenon,
although numerous hotel employees and local priests believed
that the Goddess of the South Sea chose her own oceanside
suite and saved it fron destruction.
Continuing the amazing history behind the
Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel it is said that no set of architectural
plans existed for the lobby and main tower refurbishment.
Instead, local paranormals were guided by what they say was
the spirit of the late President Soekarno. His spirit indicated
that the renovation has to be completed in a period of only
eigth months and if this could be fullfilled he would ensure
the continuing success and prosperity of the establichment.
Over 2800 workers and crafsmen worked 24 hours a day to restore
the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel to its former glory. The entire
block was renovated and modernzed using a blend of quality
raw materials and resources at such a speed that allowed the
property to re-open in less than a year after the devastating
blaze.
Room 327 remains in its former condition
and is now treated with the utmost care, preserved as a shrine
to the unknown force that saved it fron destruction. Offerings
are made daily in this room and visitors from around the world
are free to come and witness a little piece of Bali's spritual
magic. The hotels guest relation officers are more than pleasure
to give visitors a tour to this room, but unfortunaltely take
photos is prohibited.
